BenQ Projector MS524

Designed for small presentation and classroom settings, the MS524 SVGA DLP Projector from BenQ features a brightness of 3200 lumens and a native resolution of 800 x 600. To enable a measure of flexibility in terms of placement relative to the screen, there is a 1.1x optical zoom with a 1.86 to 2.04:1 throw ratio as well as ±40-degrees vertical keystone correction. In additional to its native resolution, internal scaling enables the projector to handle a variety of video and computer signals up to 1080p for HDTV sources and up to 1600 x 1200 (UXGA) for computer sources.

Ensuring the ability to connect to both current as well as legacy video sources, a total of five inputs are provided. Two VGA ports that work with many computers and integrated AV systems, which can also accommodate a component signal using a separately available component to VGA adapter or cable. For HDTV devices and computers with digital output there is an HDMI port, and for SD analog equipment there is an S-video port and a composite port. A 3.5mm stereo mini jack allows the projector to receive analog audio in case you want to use its built-in 2-watt mono speaker. There is also an analog audio output for connecting amplified speakers or a sound system.

The projector can be operated remotely using onboard buttons or the included IR remote. In addition, there is an RS-232 port for integrating with an automation system such as Crestron.

4:3 Native Aspect Ratio
This projector features the SVGA format, which produces a 4:3 aspect ratio picture optimal for PowerPoint presentations and many still images formats. The wider 16:9 HDTV and 16:10 computer aspect ratios can still be displayed - either by cropping the sides of the image, "letterboxing" (filling the remaining space with black bars top and bottom), or applying an anamorphic squeeze which distorts the picture
3200 Lumen Lamp
A single lamp provides 3200 lumens of brightness in Normal mode, and is estimated to last 4500 hours at full brightness - up to 10,000 in the low-brightness LampSave mode. To determine the ideal brightness level for your application, you will need to take into account the screen width, distance from the projector to the screen (throw distance), amount of ambient light near the screen, and the reflectivity (gain) of the screen surface used
1.86 to 2.04:1 Throw Ratio
Throw ratio is one of the most important specifications a projector lens has as it tells you the image size (width) you will get at a give distance from the screen. For example, at the 1.05x zoom setting and an 8' 11" distance this projector will throw an 55"-wide (69"-diagonal) image
DLP Imaging Device
Uses a combination of a chip covered in millions of micro-mirrors and a color wheel to produce an image. DLP features less spacing between pixels (96% fill-factor) and better contrast than many comparable LCD-based systems
3D Support
Supports 3D HD content from a variety of sources, including Blu-ray players and computer graphics cards with DLP Link compatibility. Active 3D glasses are required, and are available separately. The following 3D methods are supported:
  • Frame Sequential: Up to 720p
  • Frame Packing: Up to 1080p
  • Side by Side: Up to 1080i/p
  • Top Bottom: Up to 1080p
USB for Remote Paging
When connected to a Windows computer page up/page down navigation can be operated using the Page Up and Page Down buttons on the projector's remote
SmartEco Mode
The SmartEco Mode adjusts the lamp power to maximize power saving by delivering optimized contrast and brightness performance based on the scene that is being projected
No Source Detected Mode
Automatically switches to Eco Blank Mode after the projector is turned on for over three minutes without a display source - designed to eliminate unnecessary energy waste and prolong the life of the lamp
